Dual Credit programs, available through all Peel secondary schools, provide grade 11 and 12 students with a unique opportunity to earn both college and non-compulsory secondary credits at the same time. College credits earned may be applied to a college program after high school. Choose from more than 50 courses at colleges such as: Centennial, George Brown, Humber, Seneca and Sheridan.

 

Benefits to students:

  • opportunity to explore college programs and the college learning environment
  • free tuition, no cost for textbooks, subsidized transportation, work boot subsidy
  • free access to all facilities at the college, including athletic facilities, library, computer labs
  • experience the transition to college
  • access to peer mentoring/peer tutoring
  • support through Accessible Learning Services/Disability Services/Accommodations

Programs include:

  • Arts & Culture
  • Health & Wellness
  • Hospitality
  • Social Sciences
  • Skilled Trades
  • Information Technology

 

There are three target audiences for dual credit programs:

1. The primary target is students who:

  • are interested in a fresh start in a college learning environment
  • may be at risk of not completing the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
  • may be disengaged or underachieving; have poor attendance at school or have stopped attending school
  • would like to investigate a possible post-secondary college program and want to see how they fit into a college learning environment
  • have the potential to succeed in a college course or program

2. Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) students:

  • students enrolled in SHSM programs can use dual credits as a 'Reach Ahead' activity, which is a requirement of all SHSM programs

3. Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) students:

  • students may be able to work toward their Level 1 Apprenticeship curriculum through dual credits
